4/4/24 (swarm) Gieskes Klok & No Drum + Zerosum Inertia PLXNA2 + OAM Uncertainty + Lexicon PCM 70

video upload by Cfpp0

"Butterflies, bats, 16mm swarm: Gieskes Klok modulates itself and No Drum and Olivia Artz Modular Uncertainty, which modulates No Drum, while Klok gates No Drum."

You cand find additional Gieskes Kok module posts here.

This appears to be the first post to feature Olivia Artz Modular. Details on their modules follow via Perfect Circuit and Noisebug.

"Uncertainty from Olivia Artz Modular is a 2hp coin toss module; it is open source, with new, user-swappable firmware being developed. So, it will continue to grow and offer new functionality!

In the standard firmware, the top input accepts gates, triggers, or any signal between -5V and +5V. Based on whether the input is positive or negative, it uses two different types of logic to produce gates at the corresponding eight outputs. If the input is above +1V, then the module does eight differently-weighted "coin tosses"—one for each output. If the outcome of the toss is "heads," a +5V signal is output for as long as the input stays above 1V. If the input signal is -1V or lower, a slightly different coin toss algorithm is used, where the outputs are paired—if the result of the toss is "heads," the upper output of the pair in question sends out a signal, and if it's "tails," the lower outputs sends out a signal.

Alternate firmwares are available for free, and loading them is as easy as plugging in your module via the rear PCB USB connection, dragging on a file, and you're done. The first new official firmware is a VU meter—with the panel LEDs displaying the current voltage level, and each LED getting a dedicated gate output—somewhat like a multi-window comparator! Olivia Artz's Uncertainty module is a great way to add chance operations to your rack without sacrificing space.

UNCERTAINTY FEATURES

2HP chance module with alternate firmwares available
Default firmware uses two distinct coin toss algorithms to convert incoming bipolar signals into eight streams of outgoing gates
Open source
One CV input with 10-bit resolution
Eight gate outputs"

Your Oscillators New Best Friend! // VCO's Little Helper (VLH) by Takaab (SIAM Modular)

video upload by DivKid

"Here we're checking out VCO's Little Helper (the VLH) by Takaab (who are SIAM Modular too). It's a small 2hp module that can work like an expander for any oscillator you want to use it with. There's two inputs giving you two octaves of sub oscillators (-1 and -2), ring modulation, a noise source and thru outputs to save multiples or stacking cables to keep patching with your inputs.

Here's what Takaab have to say 'VCO’s Little Helper is a eurorack module that supercharges your existing oscillators by adding a ring mod, sub and noise. The VLH was designed in collaboration with journalist and musician Steve O'Hear following a conversation asking how we could squeeze the features found in the VCO section of many vintage synthesizers into a eurorack system.'

VLH is also a affordable addition to a Eurorack system priced around £/€/$100 (it's 4040 Thai Baht). It's available direct here // https://www.siammodular.com/takaab-vl...

Here's the mini documentary on how the VLH came to life"

Background Modulars No.3 - Serge Paperface

video upload by Memetune Studio

"Can't find a Serge Modular system to create a self-generating Cybersynthesis patch on? No worries! Just put this video on in the background (in full-screen mode), and have the next best thing 😁

In this background piece, I’m using a 1970s Paperface system with some Loudest Warning Serge clone modules to help with the AI composition process (top panel)

The usual VCO / VCF / ENV things are set up, being triggered from a combination of Positive Slew, 73 EG and the mysterious Fenetre module (a Window Comparator designed by Charlie at Loudest Warning, inspired by a tiny bit of the Destiny+ Czochralski Cells thing - Google it), which takes a CV-variable input and sends out staggered pulses, all CV-able. Some of these go to a 4-input AND module which is combined with the other clocks to give varying rhythm to the piece. The pitches are being generated from the Gated Comparator (Ken Stone design, Mk2) which is being altered as the piece develops by various interrelated CVs from the other modules and the vintage Programmer, set to 4 steps on a very slow clock, again related to the main clock via an 8-way divider, then into a 2HP Tune quantiser, which I supplanted into a spare hole in the cab. The Programmer also has its other outputs slowly changing things, such as timbre and LFO of the main oscillator. The reverb is from the Serge spring units (stereo) and there is a tiny bit of Boss SE70 delay in there (all being mixed via one of the Serge Universal Audio Processors)

The general idea is that its one great big interrelated cybersynthesis patch, and the sequence changes slightly each rotation. I think if you listen through to the end, you will hear a very satisfying melodic development, one that I was not expecting to happen. I had no idea how the melody would evolve, and for the first time in my patching life I was genuinely surprised by the melodic resolution this self-generating Serge patch produced"

AJH MiniMod Keyz Complete System - Minimoog-inspired Eurorack Synth & Keyboard Controller

video upload by

"Complete AJH Synth systems now available.

First up the MiniMod Keyz - equivalent of a Minimoog, plus extra modules, pre-installed inside a Cre8audio NiftyKeyz Eurorack case and keyboard controller.

This makes a complete Eurorack modular synth that's ready to go straight out of the box.

Our package includes the standard MiniMod voice - directly based on the original R.A. Moog version of the Minimoog, along with a RING SM, Tap Tempo VC-LFO, and the new Low Fat HP filter.

It is fitted with custom Dark American Walnut end cheeks, for a more vintage look, and comes with a selection of patch cables, so that you're ready to start making the floor rumble right out of the box.

The Ring SM is a 5-channel Moog CP3 mixer, EMS Synthi/VCS3 based Ring Modulator, and a very rich-sounding, simultaneous 2 octave sub-bass generator. User Guide:

The Tap Tempo VC-LFO is a very complex modulation source, with 16 common and unusual wave shapes, including stepped and sloped random voltages. Every element can be voltage-controlled, and can be clocked by external modules/sequencers, or act as a master clock, clock divider/multiplier. User Guide:

The Low Fat is a voltage-controlled 2hp high pass filter, and a great compliment to the classic, huge-sounding Transistor Ladder Filter. The Fattest filter in town needs to slim down sometimes! User Guide:

The NiftyKeyz is a 4-octave keyboard controller, with a large host of features, including arpeggiator, 4-voice polyphonic control, built-in LFO, and much more. Check out the website:

This pairs with the MiniMod system well, as it provides everything from Minimoog-like functionality, to way beyond, whilst maintaining the classic vintage sound and honouring the circuitry of the awesome original.

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for module 'User Guides', and 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides, detailing functions/methods, and a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself.

AJH Synth Introduces 2HP Voltage-controlled High Pass Filter

NEW MODULE! Low Fat - 2HP Voltage-controlled High Pass Filter - Features, Examples & User Guide
video upload by AJH Synth Official

"The LOW FAT is a new 2hp Eurorack module by AJH Synth, it's a High Pass filter, with frequency control by either manual pot, and/or external CV with attenuator. It's intended to compliment other filters, particularly low pass VCF modules, in practical tasks such as removing excessive low frequencies, for example when the bass is swamping a mix. However, because it can be voltage-controlled it can also be used musically as with any other VCF. When used in conjunction with a LP filter it forms a fully customisable band pass filter, allowing the range of passbands to be cherry-picked. This can be particularly useful in creating percussive sounds, such as snares and hats, but also on sequenced bass lines. Since it is only 2HP it's a great way to occupy one of those frustrating gaps in your eurorack modular case with something that is deceptively useful, and adds another dimension to the classic bass monster that is the Transistor Ladder Filter. Visit the module page on the official AJH Synth website: https://ajhsynth.com/LowFat.html

Three Generative Sequencers - And one that isn't

video upload by John Schussler

"I have a few generative sequencers I've not had time to play with, and figured I'd compare how they...play. Three are generative in one form or another, and one, the Berlin School, is not. I leave you to suffer with that incongruity in silence.

This is my first exploration with each of them, so I'm just getting a feel for how they work. You're along for the ride, but don't expect too much.

VCO is Acid Rain Chainsaw. LPG is Rabid Elephant Natural Gate. No envelope. Delay here and there is Make Noise Mimeophon. Quantizer is 2hp Tune.

Stoicism //SIG+/XPO/QPAS/Mimeophon//

video upload by Aleatoric Machine

"A self-playing Eurorack modular synthesizer patch featuring Make Noise’s XPO, QPAS & Mimeophon, and Stochastic Instruments’ Stochastic Inspiration Generator (SIG+). Plus many more modules described below.

Everything you hear in this is coming from a single monophonic sequence from the SIG+ and a single Make Noise XPO. I’m pretty amazed by how much variety of tone and texture can come from this single oscillator, all at the same time. The different waveform outputs are each running through their own VCAs, filters, triggers, and effects, but the melodic content is all the same. I’ll go through the sequencing in a minute, but first I’m going to focus on the audio signal paths.

Overall, the XPO’s L & R modulation are controlled by a triangle LFO coming from Acid Rain’s Maestro.

The first output is the stereo square wave, which goes through QPAS and Mimeophon, then into the mixer. QPAS’s L & R rotation and Q are modulated by two different smooth random waves from ALM’s Pamela’s Pro Workout. Mimeophon’s repeats are modulated by a smooth random wave coming from Maestro. This voice is triggered by a bouncing ball coming from Make Noise’s Maths.

The second output is the mono triangle wave, which first goes through an Intellijel 1U VCA, then uses Intellijel’s 1U pedal I/O to go through a Chase Bliss Mood (repeats tuned up a 5th) and Chase Bliss Dark World, then into the mixer. This voice is triggered by another bouncing ball from another Maths.

The third output is the mono sawtooth wave, which goes through channel one of a Make Noise ModDemix, an Intellijel Morgasmatron (with panning controlled by separate LFOs going to the L & R FM1 inputs - LFO 1 coming from Mutable Instruments’ Tides and LFO 2 coming from Intellijel’s Rubicon 2), then a Happy Nerding FX Aid XL running a flanger algorithm, then into the mixer. This voice is triggered by a repetitive Euclidian rhythm coming from Acid Rain Constellation and Doepfer Dual ADSR.

The last output is the spike wave going through channel two of the ModDemix, a Doepfer Multimode VCF, and Strymon’s Magneto in shift mode, then into the mixer. Magneto’s repeats are modulated by another smooth random wave coming from Maestro. This voice is triggered by a slower Euclidean rhythm coming from Constellation and Make Noise’s Contour.

Each voice goes into Doepfer’s VC Stereo Mixer, which has a built in VCA on each channel. The level of each voice is independently controlled by a separate smooth random wave from Pam, so the mix is constantly evolving. The voltages coming from Pam are further slewed by Mutable Instruments’ Stages, since the smooth random wave from Pam can still have some sharp edges. Then the whole mix goes through a 2HP Verb, with the reverb mix modulated by another smooth random wave from Pam, and finally through Endorphines’ Golden Master, which connects directly to the Intellijel 7U Performance Case’s built in audio outputs.

Now for the melodic content and harmonic structure. This is all driven by Stochastic Instruments’ Stochastic Inspiration Generator (my first patch with it!). This is an incredible module. I won’t go into everything it does, as there are already a couple very helpful videos out there on that, but suffice it to say that it lives up to its name! I’m using multiple channels, each with its own tonality, then cycling through those via an ALM Boss Bow Two switch to determine which channel will control the v/oct pitch of the XPO. The Boss Bow’s channel is control by a sequence coming from another Stages. Channel one is just a low C, to establish the primary key. Channel two randomly selects pitches from a C major chord, with low C in the bass. Channel three selects pitches from an F minor chord, with an occasional 2nd and 4th and a low F in the bass. Channel 4 selects pitches from a D flat major chord, with an occasional 6th and a low D flat in the bass.

I’m not sure if this is indeterminate enough to be considered generative, since the harmonic content is fairly structured, even if the melody, rhythm, and balance of the parts are all random. It’s more, well, aleatoric. I hope you enjoy it (although I realize than if you are into this sort of thing, you are born of a special breed!)."

Cool Ambient Patch on Blue Marvin 2600 & Eurorack ( Instruō Tágh & Harmonàig; Elements & Ripples)

video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek

"Thanks for watching!
Made a cool experimental patch using the Blue Marvin 2600 and some eurorack modules below it on the TipTop Audio Happy Ending Kit.
The modules I am using are:
- Instruō Tágh (Sample and hold out to Harmonàig)
- Instruō Harmonàig (Quantization and gate output to MI Elements)
- Instruō/Divkid øchd (Modulation to various places)
- Mutable Instruments Elements (Main Stereo Oscillator, first out goes through Ripples and then out; second out goes through 2600's filter and then out)
- Mutable Instruments Ripples for low-pass-filtering one of Element's outputs
- 2hp Mult for splitting stuff

After going out stereo into Universal Audio Volt interface and into Ableton Live, it goes through Other Desert Cities by Audio Damage, a very cool effects processor, as well as some shimmer. I am also using Blue Marvin's built-in spring Reverb to some extent.
